Door handles and Coronavirus Covid-19

Why are door handles a risk with Coronavirus Covid-19?

Coronavirus can survive on hard surface such as door handles for up to 9 days* according recent scientific reports.

A door handle could be touched by different people many times a minute.... this make a door handle a key risk in an office, public or care home environment for infection.

How can door handles be made Coronavirus Covid-19 safe?

The only way to stop a door handle transmitting a virus from hand to hand is to stop touching it: a hands free door opener. Hygienic Handles are designed as a hands free handle to allow you to operate a door without your hand needing to touch the handle. You operate the handle with your arm or with your foot.

You cannot rely on coatings alone to protect you from a virus transfer. Silver Ion technology accelerates the degradation of the virus but it still takes a significant time (even in ideal conditions). Some other 'hygienic handles' rely on the coating as the primary infection control measure, we know this is not enough. We offer our anti-microbial (Silver Ion) as an additional hygienic feature not the primary barrier to cross infection which we believe is a good addition to our Arm Handles.

To disinfect door handles and surfaces from Covid-19**:

Use disposable cloths or paper roll and disposable mop heads, to clean all hard surfaces, floors, chairs, door handles and sanitary fittings, following one of the options below:

  • use either a combined detergent disinfectant solution at a dilution of 1,000 parts per million available chlorine

or

  • a household detergent followed by disinfection (1000 ppm av.cl.). Follow manufacturer’s instructions for dilution, application and contact times for all detergents and disinfectants
